I recently wrote to my landlord to break my lease. It was the third year of my tenancy and I was 3 months into the new lease. My landlord says that I have to continue to pay the rent until they find someone to replace me. However (and this is my problem), he says that I am not allowed to stay in the building while they are looking for someone to replace me. Can this be legal. Does the landlord have the right to make me pay rent, yet still deny me the right to occupy the room?
