mold

Posted by Kevin on January 25, 2002 at 21:10:17:

My landlord has known about a severe mold problem in my New York apartment and has actually had contractors in and out of my brownstone apartment all summer giving estimates and claiming she was trying to fix the problem. I later learned she took the insurance money and used it for something else. Also I have had no heat for a year; finally after a year of complaints, her worker discovered the thermostat was broken. I have told her I am moving and breaking my lease. She has again promised to fix the mold problem but I just want out. Is it okay to just tell her this is my last month and leave. Also, how do I find out if I am living in an illegal apartment or if it is rent stabilized?
