: My landlord's lawyer has sent me a letter stating that my sublet is illegal because I failed to provide a bona fide reason for subletting. My reason is related to 9/11 as I work on Wall STreet and was very effected by the events and needed to get away for a short time. How can this not be a bona fide reason? Any assistance will be appreciated

you don't say where the apartment is, or if it's controlled or stabilized.
check your lease agreement, not sure about rs/rc apts, but, most others prohibit sub-leasing, and you could be in big trouble.
hopefully, the tenant you sub-let to doesn't destroy the place, and stay for a few extra months without paying rent, then you would have a much bigger problem.
