I'm hoping someone can give me a quick answer on this: I am leaving my rental apartment in Brooklyn. I put the word out to about 20 of my friends that my place was available and that they should call the landlord if they're interested. Many of my friends have called the landlord. Today, I heard that the landlord is now asking my friends to submit bids to him. Whomever makes the highest bid for the apartment will get it.

Is this illegal? If so, is there anything I can do? Thanks for your help!
