flood

Posted by sheryl on September 19, 1996 at 19:21:29:

In August during a hurricane my garden apartment was flooded.
I was aware that a back room that i did not use had a tendency to flood.
This time, my entire apartment flooded and i lost everything.
The pump that usually turns on did not and a gutter above the steps
leading to my aparment was backed up and spilled tons of water down my
steps, under my door and as a result everything was muddy and wet. The
apartment took weeks to get back into shape. My landlord was in Europe
at the time, so i could not get any answers or results... I also did not
pay my rent for these 2 months because i feel i am due compensation.
and he has a reputation of not returning security deposits.

Anyway, now i have been served with eviction papers.. i have a month
to month lease.... please,, what can i do? help!!!
