Illegal eviction.

Posted by Michael Skains on June 07, 1996 at 16:55:50:

My family(myself, wife and two kids) were moved out of our leased house.
All of our belongings were moved by the neighbors to their garage next door, who were
and tenants of the same landord. We owed partial rent 400.00 for the month
of March. And 590.00 was due april 1.

This illegal eviction happened on April 6, 1996. My wife caught the landlord
in the act. The sheriff department was notified, they came out, called in to
see if an eviction had been filed. None had. So the sheriff department told
the neighbors to move all of our things back to our home. The landlord also
changed the locks so we no longer had access to our things.

We've hired a lawyer. Who hasn't been working very effectively. Today
6/7/96 we finally are getting access to all of our belongings, minus what
was thrown away and stolen. Now the lawyer is acting like we don't have a
case one moment and like we do on other times. He has filed a petition
summoning the landlord to be sued, but obviously someone with a lot of pull
and money is trying to beat this case the wrong way.

Does anyone have any advice on which we should persue this case?

Thanks,
michael
