: Greetings from the National Association of Tenant Organisations - Australia (NATO). We are presently very concerned about the growth of databases in Australia that seek to suss out tenants. Private landlords or real estate agents may subscribe to these organisations to check out a prospective tenant, or they can pass on information about a tenant they have rented to. At present there are no State or Federal laws that prohibit such activity, or any restrictions on the content of data stored. NATO is keen to know if any other tenants or organisations have had experience with these agencies elsewhere, and whether anyone has had success in constraining their activities. Please contact me if you have anything to offer!

: Cheers.

I recall reading about a company in southern California that provides
such info. Basically they track court filings of evictions, whether
or not the court found in the landlords favor. The eviction attempt
is still a matter of public record so this company is able to
sell references to landlords based on this.
