Most leases allow you to paint rooms, but many require the color to be
"light". Depending on how garish the orange is, it may be a problem.
If they claim it's $350 and you object, the burden would be on them to
prove it cost them that amount to cover the old orange color. They would
need to submit the painter's invoices plus cost of the new paint. You could
have repainted it and avoided the issue. THat you are staying in the building
might be a problem as they are claiming to deduct it from the deposit (on paper)
but as you are still in the building they aren't not returning it to you at this
point. You can't take this to housing court. Small claims would be the proper venue.
