You have major problems and you need to organize a tenant group NOW
if you haven't already. There are many implications to this.
Starting with zoning issues, is what he says tight about the foundation?
Will it pass the land use process (assuming you're in NYC)?
Are you in a special district? Some special districts require a
certificate of No Harassment. Will the tenants stay in the building during
all this? Where will you go, will you get the same units back, at
the same rent, with stabilization coverage, which could be lost.
Will you have the right to return? Who will pay your moving costs?
I strongly suggest you get a lawyer -- not just any lawyer, but one
who has dealth with such issues. Get your block association involved
and get active with your community board. Start doing research on your
building at the Department of Buildings. Write us email privately at
tenant -at- tenant.net with more particulars
and maybe we can put steer you in the right direction.
