In this weeks' Backstage, p.3 and 52 there is an article about several theatrical unions joining together in a group called Home to the Arts. Unions included are Equity and SAG. Letters have been sent to Bruno and Pataki stating in part: ...we view an attempt to end rent regulations in NYC as a threat to our members and as a threat to the continued existence of NY as a cultural center of our country. . .ending rent regs will force masses of our lmembers in the Greater New York area out of their aprtments. How far will they have to move to find affordable housing? The letters were also signed by Musicians Union Local 802 and the New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council representing 25,000 members. . .the fact is that rent regs protect the very people they were intended to protect: working men and women like the members of our union.. .In my opinion, politicians both Democratic and Republican have to be reminded once again that these are tenants AND THEY VOTE!
