: I've been disconnected from the internet over the weekend, but was expecting some reaction to the Sunday Times Magazine piece on rent regulation. As I was reading the article, I was thinking it was the final nail in the coffin of regulation.
: It will give Bruno, Pataki, et. al. a huge amount of cover with everyone but regulated renters if they do manage to kill the regulations.
Please don't be discouraged. That is just what
the pro-landlord folks are hoping that tenants
will feel. As I read the article, I wasn't at all
surprised about the pro-landlord stance. After
all, it's the N.Y.Times. Author John Tierney pro-
bably makes such a good salary writing for the
N.Y.Times Sunday Magazine that he wouldn't be
disturbed if, as a result of his work, his nice
two-bedroom rent-stabilized apartment were to
become decontrolled. Come to Albany (see my
posting about how to sign up) and join the
thousands of other concerned tenants out there.
Bottom line this is all political. We'll be wearing
hats that say, "We're tenants and we vote!" That's
the main message that the politicians must hear.
