I first would like to welcome you to New York! You are very wise to be wary of those white "booklets". I did the same thing and found the same information in the yellow pages for free. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Good Luck!
: I've justy moved to the NYC area and have been staying with friends while I look for apartments. It seems every 'good' buy listed in the nytimes and the village voice leads me to a random newspaper stand in manhatten where the person behind the counter offers me this white book with 'lots of listings' for $20. Being a bit cynical and suspicious I've yet to purchadse one of the books. But I continue to find appealing apartments that lead me to these plaes. Does anyone have any info on how legit this process is or would I just be tossing my $20 away.
