: I received a Notice of Holdover Petition to appear in court on september 2.
: This notice states I need to file an answer three days prior to my
: appearance. I then received a card from housing court stating the time and
: place I need to be next Tuesday. On this card it states that at the time of
: appearance, I can file my answer. Which one do I follow? Is there any benefit
: to me to wait until my appearance to file an answer thus not tipping off
: the other side as to my defense?

I would read the housing court material on the web site. Things do change,
but it should be reasonably accurate. I think you can make your answer
then, but holdovers can be tricky, so get good advice (and if you can
see a good lawyer). Most cases are adjourned anyway, so your landlord
will know your defense. Just do your homework and prove your facts.
