: Help!! Our lease was up on 10/10/96, and we all agreed on a month to month, until we move into our new home which was 12/12/96. We told the landlord to keep our deposit for Dec. rent and tell us if it covered everything. We just recieved 2 notices for $1700 each for damages and back rent. We left it spotless, and have no pictures, so, what can we do to prove our case in one month? Joey & Scott

On a month-to-month, there should be no rent that may be due to the end of the term.
As for damages, it's the owner's responsibility to prove them; not your to prove they did not exist.
Make him prove they existed and prove what he spent to repair.
