I am against this bill. The city doesn't have a problem with having enough inspectors for buildings, the city just has a problem enforcing the laws. My building has over 150 (verified) violations
(4 family- multiple dweling) and it took for ME to start an HP Action, that lasted over a year (because of non compliance) to get results, and the results were that the landlord was fined $14,770 in penlties.
I've lived in substandard conditions for over two years and I'm being eveicted to say the least. Do you think the landlords will think of us when they do their self-certification? No! We have to fight this. We need better and quicker enforcement, not self-certification.
