NYC's Apartment Size and Classification

Posted by Brian on February 04, 1998 at 17:10:30:

A neighbor recently brought to my attention that I might have been overcharged for my rent-stabilized unit. He said even though my brownstone apt. (less than 8ft. wide) is considered a Class B apt. It is being rented as a Class A or regular apartment and, therefore, shouldn't cost
almost twice as his "Class B" unit (880 to 450). I also just found that the previous tenant only paid $650 for the apt when he left last november. Does my neighbor have a point? I'll check my lease agreement again but any advice is greatly appreciated.
