How do you get extra time after 30 day notice ?

Posted by Barbara C on March 10, 1998 at 22:04:28:

I was given a 30 day notice from my landlord yesterday and he wants me
out at the end of April. I have read previous responses from 30 day
notices and you always suggest that tenants can buy extra time in court.
Since my 30 day notice is actually a 50 day notice what would my chances
be of getting an extra month to look for a new place. What does a judge
use to determine extra time to find a suitable apartment. I am a month
to month and do not have a lease, I am renting a Condo in Staten Island.
I would appreciate any advice you could offer.
