: I was given a 30 day notice from my landlord yesterday and he wants me
: out at the end of April. I have read previous responses from 30 day
: notices and you always suggest that tenants can buy extra time in court.
: Since my 30 day notice is actually a 50 day notice what would my chances
: be of getting an extra month to look for a new place. What does a judge
: use to determine extra time to find a suitable apartment. I am a month
: to month and do not have a lease, I am renting a Condo in Staten Island.
: I would appreciate any advice you could offer.

There is no official buying of "extra time." A landlord gives you a notice
of termination. If you fail to move, he can't just change the locks. Instead
he must go through the courts to get an order of eviction, and that process
can take some time. You can also negotiate with the owner to give you
extra time to find a new place.
