Turned down because I sued a prior landlord

Posted by Ronit Azoulay on June 18, 1998 at 09:44:43:

I was turned down for a lease only because a housing check showed that I had brought a previous landlord to court for overcharging me on a rent stabilized apartment. I have been told that this is not illegal, since a private landlord can make any decision they want on who to rent to.

Does this mean that for the rest of my life I will not be able to get a lease because I sued a sleazy landlord, and now other landlords are afraid I would sue them? Can I get my name out of the court records that list that suit? Help!
