I can see how leasing an apt is like leasing a car, but if you don't pick
up the car do they still charge you for it? Upon telling them
that you would not take the apartment, I believe that they are able to
rerent the unit without your permission. And as far as the deposit is
concerned, they should not call it a deposit if it is nonrefundable. Either
it applies as a first payment to your rent, or you are eligible to have
it returned upon not moving in.
