: Just curious, what is a railroad apartment?

A railroad apartment (or railroad flat) is a name for
a particular layout of apartment found in many older
tenement-style buildings in NYC, where all the rooms
of the apartment are arranged in a straight line from
the front of the building to the rear like the cars on
a train. My apartment is about 55 feet long by about 9 to
13 feet wide. Its like living in a segmented tube.
