If you are seriously worried about you roof falling in on you start the bureaucratic stuff going. Take some photo's (including a newspaper in the shot proving the earliest possible date of the photo). These photos should clearly show what appears to be dangerous or just deteriorating. Then you may send a registered with retun mail letter to your landlord requesting that this stuff be fixed immediately (because you are worried?). [Make sure you are rent-stabilized and that you won't just get thrown out]. This is just a precautionary first step in a lengthy process of bureaucracy. The sooner the better. You are investing a few dollars. Eventually you would want to call the Department of Buildings or Building Code Enforcement. SEP 15, 1998.
