30 day notice and security deposit

Posted by Trent on September 22, 1998 at 15:18:19:

I moved out of my old apartment with approx. 17 days notice to management. However,
I got verbal confirmation from the apartment manager that it was okay to leave without
giving the required 30-day notice AND still receive our full deposit. He confirmed this TWICE
with the management company (actually one person manages the place). When the security deposit
was returned, I only received a portion of the deposit since management said I did not give
thirty days notice. My question is: does a verbal agreement between myself and the manager
(acting as a representative for management) to leave early and still receive the full deposit have
any legal ground? The apartment manager recalls our conversations and has reminded management
that they made a verbal agreement - with no results. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
