: I moved out of my apartment in mid-July, and now it is late October, and still
: my landlords have not returned our security deposits. They say that they WILL,
: but they just keep stalling and now its been over 3 months! I know that they
: are doing this because they are just dishonest crooks who think that maybe we
: will just let them get away with it, but as soon as i file a suit against them
: in court, they will send me a check. My question is, is their any PENALTY for
: waiting all this time to pay back this money? I know that in Michigan, if a
: landlord does this they must pay double or triple damages. Do we have any such
: protection in New York?? If not, what would stop any dishonest landlord from
: just WAITING until the court orders them to pay, and taking advantage of the
: interest?

Doesn't say if there is a penalty, but it does tell you where to call to file a complaint about non-return of a security deposit.

Good Luck!
