The DA has nothing to do with this (even if they were inclined to help
tenants). The Attorney General office is appropriate, but we must wait
to see if Spitzer gets in. The other message is more appropriate, but it
can involve jumping through hoops. The order should allow taking the
money off the rent (in part). If all appeals are exhausted, the tenant
can get DHCR to certify the order whiich can be filed with the NYC Clerk
as a judgment. But following the landlord is something else. In many cases,
the new owner is also liable for the overcharge.
