: i have to take my landlord to small claims court to get back my security deposit. some states say you can ask for twice or even three times the amount...what is new york's law?
Good Luck That is why most tennants do not pay the last months rent. Of my friends who did pay 80% of them did not get it back
and 100% of them who went to Court did not get it back. It seems the landlord when he renovates the
apt. after you move out or gets a friend to give him fake receipts will win. The only way a tennant
can win is if he Videos with a date the apt on the move out date or does a
tour of the apt with the landlord before he moves out and gets him to sign off on.
I hope you did this and you will win otherwise you are screwed.
