access to apt

Posted by Frustrated on April 19, 1999 at 18:23:49:

I am new to NYC and renting an apartment through a broker (i guess from a broker) who I heard
walks into the apartment during the day and does who knows what. So i installed a
new lock and now he wants a copy of the key. The thing is, he wants to come in my apartment
when i am not home to show people the apartment. I don't want him to walk in when i'm not home
and also he just shows up and doesn't call. Do i have to give him a copy of the key? Does he need my
permission to walk in whenever he wants? He threatened to keep the security deposit if he doesn't rent
the place by the time i leave. Oh, and it's a short term lease, a month and a half. Please help...
