No written permission is NYC is required. However, the lease may stipulate voltage and amperage requirements. For stabilized apartments if the AC sticks out a certain distance (???) the landlord may opt to charge $5 more per AC and written permission to remove the AC is required. Beats me why this is like this. If the landlord doesn't enforce this charge after a 2 or 3 month period he has effectively wiaved the fee....
: I'm moving to NYC and have noticed that most apartments do not have air conditioning. This is not a problem since my apartment in DC doesn't have a/c but I have installed a window unit here in DC. I am wondering whether it is legal to do the same in NYC or do I need to have written permission from the landlord?
