My roommate and I have a large security deposit down ($3,000+), and I know that our landlady does not intend to return any of it. Assume for the moment that we have already paid our last month’s rent: what is the best way to get our money back?

Call the NY Attorney General, hire a lawyer, or just give up and inflict $3,000+ in damage to our otherwise pristine apartment.

Please follow up with any experiences or advice that you have.
