Ceiling Fans

Posted by Stacie on June 02, 1999 at 17:58:01:

Now that summer has taken hold of D.C., I have been looking into installing ceiling fans in my apartment. I have two window units to cool 750 sq ft, and I can just see my electric bills going through the roof. I mentioned that I wanted to install the fans and described how I would do it to my LL. At first, I was given permission but with the condition that I leave the fans there when I vacate or patch up the hole in the ceiling. Probably a day later, I get a message that on second thought I should not do anything to the ceiling. My question is this: Would the installation of a ceiling fan be considered a major change to the apartment necessitating LL written consent or would it be more like putting up a picture and patching the holes later. I think my LL is being unreasonable and irrational. Any advice?
