I would think that they would have 3 months to change the rules and serve you with legal papers...I think time is on your side. But I have to agree with Richard coops are very cliqish. You may get away with the dog....but when you need something from them another time they may screw you good....

Also did you read the proprietary lease?...the 50lb book that came with your COOP there may be a pet clause in their. Oh and one last thing ask around to see if anybody else owns a dog....one more to whole bunch won't be as bad...

: Thanks for the response. My main question though, is that if the rule is not written in the rules they gave us, am I bound to it?
: If I bring the dog in before they change the rules, will I be required to get rid of it?
: PS - I already have a cat.

: : : I recently bought a coop in queens, NY. The seller told me that dogs were allowed in the past, but they weren't sure about now. I was given copies of three sets of coop house rules and my proprietary lease and nowhere does it say I cannot have a pet. The board had said that it does not allow dogs, but other pets are ok. I would like to bring in a dog but am not sure if I am within my rights as owner. Any help?

: : Well Ryan...welcome to the last remains of communism in America........If there is nothing in your lease that prohibits dogs, well guess what..... next month the co op board will meet and amend the rules and you will have to get rid of the dog or face the penalties...( whatever they decide to make up just to aggrivate you)

: : Why not let someone else get dumped on and get a cat!
