: I moved into my first apartment in December of last year. I live on the top floor and I have a vent in the kitchen ceiling that serves as a smoke vent. It leaks every single time it rains! I have made at LEAST 10 calls to the maintenance people, they have been over twice to look at the ceiling and the roof, but nothing has been done. Now they won't even return my calls. I have never been in this situation before, I feel like everyone at that place will just give me the run around. What do I do now?

Send a certified letter return reciept......and state that you will not be responsible for any damage due to the leaky roof, and that the super has been over (X) many times, specify the dates, and that have put the Landlord on notice that any damages will be borne by the Landlord and that you expect a full refund of your security deposit when you move.
