should he sign the document...Sure why not? he"s a rich guy now that
he is being transferred, what does he need the money for anyway.
Let him give the LL thousands of $$ in free money then
let the LL deregulate the apartment MORE FREE MONEY FOR THE LL
Actually he's a real dumbass....... he should have never even told the
LL he wants to give up a rent stabilized apartment, he should have said
I am being transferred for a year maybe two and got his boss to give him
a letter saying that...WHY? so in case anything goes wrong he will have
a cheap apt to come back to and not have to go look at the same
aparment later for over $2000!
At the end of 2 years if he doesn't want to come back the subtenant
sould be able to take over the lease with a 20% vacancy increase...
He really is pretty stupid

: One tenant in our rent-stabilized building (NYC) is being transfered upstate by his company.
: He contacted the LL about breaking the lease w/o penalties.
: The LL asked him to sign a document "giving up all rights to the security deposit and all rights and claims he has under the lease" against the LL; then he will be released from the lease obligations.
: We have a number of cases pending against the LL at DHCR, including rent overcharges, reduction in services, and appealing MCI charges.
: Should the tenant sign the document?
