Tenants in Comercially Zoned Spaces - need resource

Posted by Minty on September 20, 1999 at 15:49:13:

I did a search and found a past workshop on this subject back in April (of what year, I do not know). Can someone recommend a page/document/area where I can find out about what rights I do and do not have? Our rent has been raised $200/mo each, which isn't a problem in itself, but the landlord (and the sub-landlord) want extra deposits, even though the structure itself isn't properly maintained and they do the Commercial Zone Heat Schedule in the winter (heat from 9-5 Monday thru Friday, or Saturday if lucky). I realize this is all about the market value in Williamsburg these days, but we were just told about this last night, supposedly effective next month. For the record, we also pay all our own maintenance, repairs, and appliances. It would be nice to stay, but I suppose I'm really wondering how long it would take to legally evict us if we don't comply with their ridiculous demands, since we are most likely going to find another place. Also, the sub landlord always acts really dodgy when I ask for something in writing! I laugh heartily at him. Anyway, if someone can direct me to something, please email me minty@spacelab.net. Thanks!
