illegal activity by realtor?

Posted by Page on October 04, 1999 at 22:15:19:

In short, I am resently seperated and have moved into a beautiful, unique
studio in Chesea. In June I negotiated thru a realtor a lease that is in my
husbands name only,as his credit and income is excellent and mine is
not. He agreed to pay for 1 year of rent for me and put up 6 months in
advance, deposit, and realtor fees of $3100.00. The owner,1st time landlord,
allowed me to move in immediatly as the application and $$'s were in perfect
order.Although the lease clearly stated no one was permitted to live in
the apt. till approval was given,I was signed in as a guest and told no
rent would be charged till approval was insured. The realtor formed the paper
work so it appeared that my husband and I would be living together in the
apt. Well, she divised many lies over the course of the approval period
along with the landlord in the attempt to recieve approval. Over and over
again they have requested that I sign the lease and my credit is checked
I have refused stating the only condition I had in renting was it is in
my husbands name only which was clearly discussed prior to my financial
deposit. This request is being made by the board and now they claim I am
unreasonable. The coop has sought legal action against the owner and today
I recieved a notice from an attorney my landlord hired stating I
have unauthorized and illegal occupancy of the apartment. All I want is my
money returned and I will vacate. This is the only notice in writing I
have recieved. My landlord has claimed he never stated I would not pay rent
till I had approval and he does not have the money to return, over 13,000.00.
I'm sure this will go to court! What should I do?
