This is standard procedure and is legally proper. Especially with rent regulated apartments, landlords don't want the subtenant claiming succession rights because the landlord accepted rent checks from the subtenant.

: I'm legally subleasing my rent stabilized apartment for a period of 1 year and the landlord says that all the rent checks need to come from me (from my account) and not the subtenant's. Is this true? Legal?
