I live in a house in Stillwater,Oklahoma that was turned into a duplex situation.
The people that live
up front basically rent out the back part of the house to me. I have lived here
for 1 year and 2 months. The people I originally sub-leased from moved out
in May 1999 and new people moved in. In May I contacted the new renter and
a verbal contract of 1/3 rent and 1/3 of bills was made. I was gone for the
summer and came back in mid-August, in mid-September they told me they were
going to raise my rent. My question is do I legally have to pay the increase
in rent since I do not have a written agreement? What is your advice for this
situation?
