When I applied for my present apartment, I had to submit 5 (FIVE) references which included 3 personal and 2 business-related. I did so.
Now I find out that my landlord is a miserable, money mongering bastard who wants to collect rent, decrease services in a major way, and leave the tenants to fend for themselves and accept (quietly) his whims and follies! (and yes, I've just undergone a nightmare 8 hours in court with his attorney! He doesn't have the courtesy to show himself!)
Are there any ways we renters can check "references" of potential landlords before we get ourselves into the inferno of their appathy and greed?
I'd truly be greatly appreciateive for any serious replies to this.
