Same thing here: And when I tried to "fight the board", I was told pretty much the same thing that has been mentioned here already. Coop Boards apparently have more clout than most laws. Particulalry in NYC. I consulted with several lawyers and the common repsonse was that, once a Coop Board wants you out as a sub-lease, you're pretty much out.
Just as an added commentary: I'd rather lay homeless on a subway track than ever rent in a coop again. Your shelter becomes nothing more than a matter of pure nepotism. If the board likes you, you get to stay. If someone with clout on the board wakes up one morning and decides s/he doesn't particularly like the color of your shoes... it's call the moving company.
Renters beware.
