You are mixing things up... Family relationships matter when it's a
matter of apartment succession. You are talking about sublet or
roommates.
RPL 226-b gives you the right to sublet. See the March 96 issue of Tenant/Inquilino
in the Met Council section of this site -- under NYC tenant groups.
You also have a right to have a roommmate and it doesn't matter if it's
a family member or not.
