They look up Credit History (TRW report) for bad credit ,deliquency, bankruptcy and judgement. That's standard. Some will look to see if you have a criminal record...but past crimes for which you did time is not necessarilly a legal reason to be denied housing. Its discrimition in some states....
Some will contact past landlords, jobs. Finally current paystubs are a must....

: am looking to rent apt. in nyc and want to know exactly what background/credit check/rental history/ect/ a landlord is allowed to investigate. In other words what-all is a landlord allowed to find out about me???
