In the USA in general gays have no housing protection

That would work in only about 4 or 5 cities right now...and only in NYC not NY State. So if landlord wants to kick you out of housing because your gay they can.
In those areas that have anti-gay housing protection exclusions for 3 or less apartments in building and religous beliefs exist as well.
