Owner Personal Use eviction

I just learned that the Landlord transferred title to the building to a family trust (presumably for estate planning purposes).

He just started an eviction claiming his intention to occupy the apartment.

I think the law requires that the building owned by an individual.

Does the deed to the family trust mean he can't maintain this action?

Gererally yes, the law requires personal ownership, not a corporation. I don't know how a family trust fits into that. A trust might not be the same thing as an incorporated entity.

You don't say if you're rent regulated. If not, then he can get you out anyway for any reason he wants at the end of the current lease.

If you are RS, then I would consult with a good tenant attorney ASAP. These things are complicated. Even if he does have rights, you will want to delay it as long as possible in order to find a new place, and perhaps negotiate a buyout.
