There has been no heat in the entire building for almost a week now. I have called 311 and lodged a couple complaints but I think all of their inspectors are too busy this time of year to come evaluate the building. Two days ago the water became cold and filled with soot. The toilet won't flush either. It seems as though the landlord taking his time to fix the this problem (boiler according to him) because he doesn’t want to pay overtime. I bought a portable heater and was wondering if I am allowed to take the money I paid for it out of my rent. Also wondering what the best way for me not to pay rent this month would be. Any other suggestions about how I can get my landlord’s attention through his check book (the only way he will listen) would be greatly appreciated.
