Lanlord ran away with security deposit after selling house

Postby 8millionstronk » Sat Aug 18, 2018 3:42 pm

The landlord moved to a different country right after cashing in big on the sale of the house.

should I give up, or can I hold the new landlord responsible for the deposit?

New landlords are responsible for tenant deposits. Just make sure you can prove you made the deposit when you moved in.

This. You can go and print an extract of your bank activity at the time you paid the deposit, and try to find other pieces of "evidence", such as, for example, using the Wayback Machine to show the sale offer on the Internet, printing out SMS/messenger application logs, or bringing the legal documents regarding the sale of the house.
