Moving into a new apt when not on lease

Postby hellerls » Wed Apr 24, 2002 9:55 am

Hi,

I really damaged my credit 6 yrs ago, and cannot seem to get an apt. I found an apt with a friend of mine, and i had to have my boyfriend sign the lease with her since i have credit problems.

My boyfriend will not be living in the apt with us. If the management company finds out (and we've always paid the rent on time) what are the repercussions?

For your own protection, you should have been a party to the lease, with your boyfriend or someone else as a guarantor.

However, under the roommate law, you have the right to be a roommate, after your boyfriend "moves out" of the apartment.
