Uncooperative landlord- any suggestions?

Postby waywardgirl » Wed Apr 17, 2002 4:17 pm

Any suggestions on what to do when your current landlord will not return calls verifying that you are indeed his tenant? We are planning on moving May 1, and have put down a deposit on a new apartment. However, we cannot sign the lease until the building super verfies that we have been paying our rent, not causing any problems, etc. She has left multiple messages with our landlords answering service, none of which he has returned. I suspect that he is hoping to get us to sign on for another year, as he has been having a hard time getting apartments rented. Any suggestions to get him to return a phone call? Thanks.

A LL reference is always nice, but how about your cancelled rent checks as proof you paid your rent in a timely and consistant manner.
