Landlord Never owned property

Postby jdrozd » Mon Jul 21, 2003 9:11 pm

I am currently leasing a condo from my landlord and have two months left on the lease. I was just informed by the actual owner of the building/condo that my landlord wasn't paying him on time and owed him a lot of money. He told me that I needed to start paying him instead. I talked to my landlord and found out that he was suing her about this situation and that I needed to just pay him as he said. That is all fine, but was this contract ever valid if she never owned the condo? Also, Do I have to sign a new lease with him or do I just fulfill my current lease, which has his name nowhere on it?

The reason that I am asking is because I do not want to live there if he is my landlord. I do not trust him at all and want nothing to do with him. I would have never signed the lease if I were signing it with him. I live in NC, so I am not sure if anybody has any advice about this.

Thanks
