lease sounds fishy, could this be illegal?

Postby sniers555 » Tue May 07, 2002 4:04 pm

I thought about breaking my lease because the neighborhood is a little sketchy and my neighbors are very loud. When I went to look over my lease, i found that it states that if I happen to try to break the lease, the landlord has the right to continue to collect rent from me until the end of the original lease agreement, even after signing on a new tenant! so he would be collecting two rents for one apartment. this sounds really wrong... i wonder if anyone's had experience with anything like this.

i don't believe he is allowed to collect double rent. he can continue to collect rent from you until the end of your lease agreement or until he begins collecting from a new tenant.
