Landlord request to sign agreement

Postby Mozam » Mon May 12, 2003 3:29 pm

So my landlord just gave tenants a "memo" that stating hallway was just redone and that in the future tenants will be held responsible for any damage. The landlord then goes on to ask that I sign and return this notice. Although I don't understand why I should be expected to sign anything in addition to my lease, I would like to maintain amiable relations with this person, who also lives around the corner. Any advice on the disadvantage of signing such a notice and a reasonable way to reply.

Most leases already include a clause making tenant responsible for any damages they or their guests cause and this notice is just a reminder of that fact. I'm thinking that LL wants tenants to sign it to acknowledge they received and read notice and by you replying to LL that you refuse to sign indirectly affirm that you received and read notice.
